To commemorate the Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend, Gables UCC will seek to address the issues of hunger right here in Miami, a city which has the dubious title of the poorest large city in the nation. On Saturday morning, January 13, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Pastor Laurie will go into the historic tower of Gables UCC and stay there until FIVE tons (10,000 pounds) of food fill the Feeding South Florida trailer in the church green. Feeding South Florida is an organization that provides food to the hungry here in South Florida.
Please come throughout the day and leave your food items at the receiving tent at the green in front of the church. The food will be weighed and recorded as we reach for the five-ton goal. Start collecting your food items now – rice, flour, and beans help the poundage rise quickly, as do canned goods. They also provide nourishment and support to hungry people.
Donations of cash will also be gratefully received. For every dollar donated, six life-giving meals are provided through Feeding South Florida. Also, each dollar will count toward a pound of food.
Please come early in the day as Pastor Laurie would love to come down by early afternoon so she can get home and work on her sermon for the next day!
