We will spend the week living in the city and learning from the people of Chicago.
We will stay in the heart of Chicago at the First Church of the Brethren in East Garfield Park.
We will take the “L” train to and from our daily activities.
Each day we will spend time volunteering at local service agencies such as:
An elderly care center
An urban gardening network
A local church
A neighborhood outreach center
DOOR’s mantra is “seeing the face of God in the city.” We will bear witness to life in the city by:
Daily volunteer activities.
Speakers from the neighborhood, including people who work on homelessness outreach and public health initiatives.
Listening to the stories of the people we serve each day.
This trip is an opportunity for us to connect with one another and grow in our faith.
We will end each day with group reflection on what we experienced that day and how these experiences connect to our faith.
We will stay together, work together, travel together, and cook our meals together.
The total cost per person is $710, which includes lodging and food for the week in Chicago, as well as estimated cost of airfare.

Throughout the spring, we will be participating in a couple of fundraisers, which we hope will decrease the cost substantially. Please stay tuned for details on this.
If you are unable to pay the full cost, please speak with Pastor Aaron as soon as you can. He is happy to have a confidential conversation about this with you. It is our hope that all youth who want to go on this trip are able to go.
