“To My White Friends Who Know Me”
October 7 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT
In this Anniversary Year we are mindful that one of our most meaningful and precious commitments as a congregation is to our calling as an Anti-Racism Church. Part of that commitment is to regularly meet to study, discern, learn, and grow what it means to do the work of anti-racism in our lives, our church, our community, and our nation.
We will be hosting a remarkable live theatre production of To My White Friends Who Know Me by Deborah Plummer.
The play seeks to answer the question, can we have authentic friendships across racial lines? This frank, funny, enlightening play thoughtfully examines race relations through the lens of cross racial friendships and their untapped benefits.
The playwright, Deborah Plummer, is a psychologist, educator, and founder of Getting to We, an organization that develops and promotes charitable initiatives and educational projects that turn us and them into we, especially in high conflict, emotionally charged social issues such as racism, sexism, and heterosexism.
Tickets are $10.00 and patrons are $25.00 (for those who can help support bringing the show to Gables UCC). Kids under the age of 18 are free.
There are two performances available: Saturday evening, October 7 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 8 at 1:00 p.m. (A light lunch will be served after worship for those attending the performance.)
This show has received rave reviews and recently sold-out Karamu Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio, the oldest African-American theater in the nation.
This is a remarkable opportunity for us as a church, community, and individuals to learn more about ourselves and one another. Please take the time to attend both our Sacred Conversations and the performance of To My White Friends Who Know Me. It will be transformational!
Even if you are coming as a student for free, please register.
