Join us over these four Sundays as various artists from our church family share how faith influences their art. 

March 12 –Ronald Morgan, Director of Music Ministry at Gables UCC. Ron holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music in suburban Cleveland, and a Master of Music and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He has been a church musician since the age of 13.  

March 19 – Daniel Lewis, dancer/choreographer.  An internationally-recognized dancer, teacher, choreographer and author, Dr. Lewis is founding Dean of Dance at the New World School of the Arts (NWSA).  He has heightened modern dance awareness in South Florida through Miami Dance Futures, a company he formed in 1988. Mr. Lewis is perhaps most widely known for his association with the work of Jose Limón, having danced with the José Limón Dance Company from 1962-74. He has also been commissioned to create works by the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, Dallas Civic Opera, American Opera Center at Lincoln Center, and so many more.  His repertory company, Daniel Lewis Dance Repertory Company, performed and taught extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Scandinavia for 17 years. Mr. Lewis graduated from New York’s High School of Performing Arts in 1962 and The Juilliard School in 1967. In 1990, the National Society of Arts and Letters awarded Mr. Lewis the gold medal for Lifelong Achievement in Dance. 

 March 26 – Elisa Turner, art critic. As Miami correspondent for ARTnews magazine, she has written extensively about Miami’s art community. From 1995 to 2007, she was primary art critic for The Miami Herald, with international assignments to Havana Biennial, Haiti, Venice Biennial and Art Basel in Basel, Switzerland. Drawing on her experience and research in Miami Herald archives, she wrote the foreword tracing the history of the Miami art scene from early 1980s to 2006 for the book Miami Contemporary Artists by Julie Davidow and Paul Clemence. In 2021 and 2020 she was awarded First Place for her Arts Commentary & Criticism, and in 2021 Second Place for her Arts Beat reporting from Florida’s Sunshine State Society of Professional Journalists. 

April 5 – Lesley Salas, poet. Lesley is a bilingual, bicultural lesbian mother of two. She lives at the intersection of many identities. Her spiritual quest has gone hand-in-hand with her artistic expression. Her first book of poetry, Pray to What Humbles You, recounts her struggle for self-acceptance and embraces her connection to the divine.
