Sacred Conversation on Race

Duringthis Black History month, and as part of our continuing commitment to the workof dismantling racism and our covenant to be engaged in ongoing sacredconversations on race, we are encouraging members and friends of Gables UCC youto participate in an interesting and timely program.
PBSis hosting a two-part series entitled, “The Black Church: This is Our Story,This is Our Song.” This moving four-hour, two-part series from executive producer, host andwriter Henry Louis Gates, Jr.,Professor at Harvard University, traces the 400-year-old story of the Black church in America, all the way down to itsbedrock role as the site of African American survival and grace, organizing andresilience, thriving and testifying, autonomy and freedom, solidarity andspeaking truth to power.

Then, on Tuesday,February 23 at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom, please join in a conversation around thisseries led by the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey Black, the former General Minister and President of the United Church ofChrist. During his years in ministry, Rev. Blackalso served as assistant chaplain at Brown University, associate minister atSt. Albans Congregational UCC in Queens, Lecturer in the Field EducationDepartment at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, and Protestantchaplain at Adelphi University. Ecumenical commitment, concern for equal justice,African-American empowerment, and community improvement have shaped Black’sministry in the church and in the communities in which he has lived.
