CAP Saturday Music Classes
December 17 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm EST
Community Arts Program (CAP) Saturday Music Classes meet to accommodate a complete music learning experience for youth, ages 5-18.
Here’s a glimpse into what we do:
Here’s another fun and important part of your music education. It’s the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument (or, program the iPod)! Learn your instrument, together, with a CAP Conservatory for the Arts teacher. And, to be your best, we require a minimum of 20 minutes of documented practice each day. We promise; you’ll see the great results!
Knowing about music theory is like knowing not only how to turn on your iPod, but knowing how the music it plays is created, sounded, and written down. How does music work? How do we write down all the different sounds and identify the spaces between those sounds? Want to really tune into how music works? Yep, that’s what music theory is all about. It’s all the cool stuff in music that you’ll learn to turn on with your head and ears.
Music Theory Testing & Performance Juries
Here, these words are your friends: testing and juries. Music theory testing and performance juries are the ultimate reality show, where students complete a written music theory test and perform, individually, for teachers (a.k.a. the “jury” oooooo!). But don’t worry; there is no Simon Cowell among us (as long as students study and practice, that is). Basically, we want to see how well students have studied and practiced and, from that, provide constructive expectations to maximize results. BTW, parents receive a written evaluation.
Once each month, parent(s) join in for a close look at how their young musician is learning, learn more about instruments and discover successful techniques that maximize their understanding and potential as their child’s greatest champion and teacher at home.
Peer Shout Outs!
Students, teachers, and mentors rally to hear and discover from other students. Students perform for each other and show what they’ve been working on and discuss what they’re learning. It’s a peer pep rally to gear up for Theory Testing and Juries.
Throughout the year, we have opportunities for you to hear music, and see the seasoned professionals who make it, in action. And on occasion, students are part of the concert action! We often have additional information on concert outings in advance of the date. Other dates are a fun surprise. Stay tuned!
Now, here’s your chance to really shine for family and friends; take center stage and “strut your stuff” in a real concert setting. And, the best part is this: It’s guaranteed to be fun! We’re all proud of what each student learns throughout the year.
