Broken Wholeness: The Teachings, Lessons, and Wisdom of Father Henri Nouwen – Adult Spiritual Formation
June 5 @ 9:45 am - 10:30 am EDT
One of the great privileges of Pastor Laurie’s life was being invited to study with one of her mentors, Father Henri Nouwen, when he was a professor at Yale Divinity School and she was a young pastor. His teachings and writings have shaped and guided her ministry over these many years. The wisdom of Fr. Nouwen, however, is not just for clergy. In fact, it is for anyone who wrestles with faith, finding themselves in the long night of the soul, seeking wholeness and fullness of life, and caring for others in the midst of their own woundedness.
You are invited to share in this four-week series on Fr. Nouwen as we look at four of his greatest books: Making All Things New, In Memoriam, The Wounded Healer, and Reaching Out. You do not have to read the books – just come and learn about this remarkable man, a Dutch Catholic priest, professor, writer, and theologian who is said to have been one of the most famous Christian spiritualists of the 20th century before his untimely death. The author of forty books, he taught at Notre Dame, Yale, and Harvard, and was also very involved in social justice issues: marching with Dr. King, serving the poor in Peru, and caring for the severely mentally disabled at Daybreak Community in Canada.
