We gather on this day to commemorate Juneteenth and to recommit ourselves to being an anti-racism church. Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the US and is the oldest known celebration honoring the enslavement of people of African descent. While Juneteenth celebrates freedom, it also reminds us of the many ways in which the legacy of slavery still lives in our national life. We remember that many promises of freedom were not kept; that we have yet to live up to our ideals of “liberty and justice for all.”
Our Adult Handbell and Chancel Choirs will offer music of freedom and faith as we acknowledge and thank them for their singing and ringing all year long before they take a summer break.
