Shortly before his trial and crucifixion, Jesus triumphantly enters Jerusalem to shouts of “Hosanna!” In humility he rides on a donkey, a Jewish symbol of peace and gentleness, a very different symbol from the horse dressed with all the battle finery of the Empire on which Pilate rode into the city that same day. People on that ancient day chose in which to participate in and a leader in whom to place their very lives. What about us? Imperial power or a new realm of peace? To which parade do we lay down our coats, an ancient symbol of who we are and to whom we give our all?
