Started by the UCC in 1922 to respond to the basic needs of poor shrimper’s families who were living in deplorable conditions along the Gulf Coast, Back Bay Mission continues to be a lasting source
of hope for children, adults, and families. Through the years, the mission continued to expand its ministry and services to the poverty stricken and those on the edge. While home rehab is an integral part
of their work, the Back Bay Mission does much more. They provide emergency assistance to the homeless and other disadvantaged people including a food pantry and soup kitchen and they operate the Micah
Center where homeless folks can shower, get haircuts, receive mail, and get job counseling, etc. There are specific services for veterans as well. Last summer, twelve church members volunteered for a week and
had the time of their lives while helping others.
This summer, from June 17 – 24, we are inviting members of our congregation (16 years of age and above) to join us once again for a mission trip to Back Bay Mission and to help in the various aspects of their work. The accommodations are clean and modern, and participants are very well fed. It will be an experience that you will never forget.
Space is limited, sign up with Pastor Aaron by contacting him at AaronL@gablesucc.org.
